Come Forth Lazarus

Mary, Martha and Lazarus
Friends of Jesus

Scripture:
A friend loveth at ALL times
Proverbs 17:17

Key Word(s):
Friend:A person that you care for, trust and love

 Attention Getter:

What characteristics do your friends need to have?

Lazarus Race

1. Form two teams.
2. The two teams will pick who will be Lazarus.
3. I will handle each team a pack of streamer.
4. Once the team pick Lazarus, the teams will wait until I say "Go". 5. On "go" the team will wrap the Lazarus with the streamer.
6. The team that wraps their Lazarus first, wins.

Lesson:
  • Jesus had three friends: Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.
  •  One day Jesus was travelling and he recieved a letter from his friends Mary and Martha that Lazarus was sick.
  • Instead of going to see about his friend he kept on teaching.
  • Jesus told his disciples not to worry because Lazarus sickness would not result in death but God would get the glory.
  • Two days after Jesus got the message, he decided to make the trip to see about Lazarus.
  • When Jesus arrived, Martha started crying saying, "if you would have come earlier, then Lazarus would still be alive."
  •  Then Mary came to him and said the same thing. Jesus began to weep.
  • Jesus wept because he had performed many miracles in front of his friends and they still did not believe in his power.
  •  Jesus asked Mary and Martha to take him to the tomb. Once they got to the tomb, Jesus told them to move the stone. Lazarus had been dead for four days.
  •  Everybody did not want to move the stone because of the smell that would escape the tomb.
  •  Jesus convinced them to move the stone. Once the stone was moved, Jesus told Lazarus to come forth.
  • Jesus was raised from the dead.

Important Notes:
> Jesus was the friend of Mary, Martha and Lazarus and he is our friend too
>We should love our friends at ALL times
>Jesus wants us to have faith in him, no matter what the situation looks like (Lazarus dying)

He Cares for You!

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Matthew 10:29-31 ESV

The song by Ron Winans says, "if he cares for the sparrow, then I know he cares for me. If he watches the sparrow, then I know he watches me". For someone, the test and trials are getting you down BUT God is able to do it for you. It has been over a year since I worked a steady job, BUT GOD has provided for me and kept me. At times I feel so frustrated and discouraged but as Pastor Cheryl said, " You have to shake it off." So for the people that are struggling with bills, depression, suicidal thoughts, and other things know today that if God watches the sparrow, he surely watches you. Be encouraged!!!

 I love the ending!
Already knew that he died for me and gave his life just to set me free, and now you tell me his watches and cares for me...cares for me!

He cares for you and this is just a test and only temporary!

The song is the previous post. I hope it encourages you as much as it encouraged me.

New Life in Him

Confused Nicodemus

Scripture:

Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God
John 3:5

Key Words:

Rabbi: A title of respect for a Jewish scholar or teacher.

Lesson:

John 3

A leader by the name of Nicodemus had heard of Jesus. Nicodemus was a wise man, very important in the city. Nicodemus was also a Pharisee, which meant he obeyed God's law, believed in life after death, and that the Messiah was coming. Nicodemus was amazed by Jesus' teachings and miracles, although, the group that Nicodemus believed to did not. Nicodemus came to Jesus at night. He asked Jesus," How can I be saved". Jesus explains to him that a man had to be born again in order to enter the kingdom of God. Nicodemus was confused by this statement although he was a very wise man. Jesus goes further to explain that a man must be born of water and Spirit, which meant he had to be baptized and to receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit. In order words a man has to go to some body of water and be fully cover by the water. Therefore, a fill sprinkles from a cup will not work.

Key Points
  • You have to be born again (no not the natural way) but of water and spirit
  • When you are born again you become a new creature like the butterfly
  • If you do not know, ask!
  • One day God is coming back for all that have been born again

Kids & Fasting

This is the top 4 tips on helping your children

  1. Understanding Fasting---It is important for children to understand that fasting is not dieting or just starving yourself. By using situations that children understand they are better able to understand what fasting is and the purpose for fasting. For example, tell them to imagine they are watching television and in comes someone to vacuum the floor. With the vacuum it becomes harder to hear what is on the television, therefore, you have to turn the television up. Well, like that vacuum all of the distractions in our lives make it hard to hear God (the television). In order to better hear him we have to turn up our prayer life and turn down our plates and other distractions.
  2. Don't Force Them---When choosing to fast it is a decision that is made for YOU to get a closer walk with God. Therefore, the decision in my opinion should be left up to the child.Because instead of fasting, it feels like a punishment to the child. In turn this could turn the child off from fasting completely because they will equate it to a form of punishment.
  3. Baby Steps---Let your child start small. Maybe instead of two weeks, they can do one week.Let them decide what it is that they will give up for God (video games, TV, computer, Facebook, Twitter, IG, sweets, cell phone). Starting small will allow them to be able to fast at their level. Too much at one time could be a setup for failure.
  4. Family Time---During the time of fasting it is a wonderful time to have family prayer and bible study. Family bible study and prayer brings unity to the household and will eliminate idle time.

Jesus' First Miracle: Water into Wine

Scripture:
John 2:1-11
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

Main Point:
Jesus wants the best for us so when He asks us to do something we should do it; just like the servants did at the wedding. John 2:5 "whatsoever he saith unto you, do it"

Review Questions:
What event did Jesus attend with his mother and the disciples?
Why did Mary ask Jesus to help?
What did Jesus tell the servants to do?
